Anyone else old, like me, and happened to live around Cincinnatti around the time The Beast opened in King's Island (Well before Paramount bought em..)? Just curious. I remember distinctly watching the entire ride on tv as they mounted a camera to the front car and filmed it. Quite like the Discovery shows do now.. but back then, it wasn't as common a thing to see.. and because it was, at the time, the longest, fastest and I think tallest roller coaster in the world, it was big news for suck a little town. Then I remember The Bat coming in. The local rumor (I lived right near KI for years) was that it was sinking into the ground slowly, and had to be torn down. I only recently decided to find out what the real reason was, and come to find out, since it was the first coaster of it's kind, it happened to be prone to breakdowns and ended up just costing WAY too much to maintain. I feel pretty good that I was able to ride it before it went away.. guess not a lot of people got to do that. And before anyone asks.. no, they didn't highly publicize that the Brady Bunch was coming to King's Island, otherwise, you can bet that me and my friends would have been there. Chris www.rexxis.com

well, i was watching my loser channel the game show network, and they actually had an advertisement for king's island. when i saw how old it was, i began to laugh. well, there wasn't any coasters there, it was just like a golf course resort type of thing. it was probably pre-'70s right before the beast, around 1974, probably. forget what show though.
