(long version) It was my first time there today. I was checking their site today and it appeared to be their last day open for the season. So I said what the hell, might as well have one more park on my list of visited this year. Parking and entry was free and you buy tickets for the rides like at a fair. Since this one guy we where talking to in the line for the Chiller said to us- "Ive ridden the best, now I'm riding the rest". We asked him what one he was talking about and he said the Phoenix at Knoebels was the best (but funny he wouldn't go no hands on the Chiller when we asked him to and he was pure white in the face when the train re-entered the station. ) So we headed right over to the Phoenix when we got there. It cost $1.60 for each person to ride once. Line was short and it had a super dark tunnel even darker then inside of Skull Mountain before the lift hill (man it was pitch black!!) It was fast and had tons of air-time where we where constantly lifted out of the seats. Unlike Hercules at Dorney where it only has a good drop then the ride feels over, a ride on the Phoenix lasts forever in comparison. Pretty ---- good coaster considering how old it is! Next we hit the Whirlwind. Price was $1.20 per ride and the line was walk right on. Ride was odviously built by the same company that made the Scream Machine and Corkscrew at Cedar Point. It has the same track and same trains. It was also a very short ride. Shorter then even the Corkscrew at Cedar Point and felt twice as bumpy as the Scream Machine! It's a classic for sure... The cool part about it was it went through the trees so close that you could put your hand out and touch the branches. But another reminder that we have the 'real McCoy' here at Great Adventure. It felt like a little concept version of the Scream Machine. Finally we made it over to their newest coaster the Twister. Cost was an even $2.00 per ride. Where the Phoenix was about air-time, the Twister was about speed! And speed it had!! Even the Mean Streak at Cedar Point didn't feel near as fast as the Twister (no trim brakes that I could see). It's so new that you can still see pencil marks from the builders on the wood climbing both the lift hills. My freind who had been there before that coaster was built was supprised they had coaster that took your picture and said- "wow, they're moving up in the world"...hehe. This 1rst class woody is a ride I think G.Adv needs honestly instead of yet another steel (Note: I'm not even a fan of woodies but hey, they're kinda refreshing after being burnt out on steels.) Walking through the park is the wierdest thing. There's a few small houses throughout the park! How cool would that be to live in the middle of a amusement park!? And one thing I see people complaining about around here is the lack of flat rides running at G.Adv. Well if you like flat rides, this is the place to go! It has tons of them!! Another wierd thing is we actually got to eat in the park for a change!! Food was cheap! Normally at G.Adv we always stop and eat before the park and after since it's so freakin' expensive. Why oh why can't G.Adv make their food prices more realistic? Heck, the whole park is kinda overpriced in my opinion. Hell, look at Cedar Point. Even their parking is only $8.00 compared to G.Adv's outragous $10. G.Adv would probably rack in alot more dough (and probably get more attendance) if the prices where more reasonable. Oh well, that's it. We didn't stay long... Just got something to eat, hit the three rides and left. I spent no more then $10 there with food and rides. Although they have nothing remotely close to in the league of the Nitro, Chiller, Medussa and Scream Machine. But still a great value and two kickin' ass Woodies and endless amounts of flat rides. Oh and did I mention the food is cheap?

Glad you got to experence at least part of Knoebels; but too bad you didn't get to expererence the real magic at Knoebels. More on that later...
"It was my first time there today. I was checking their site today and it appeared to be their last day open for the season. So I said what the hell, might as well have one more park on my list of visited this year."
Not the last day, at all. Last operating weekend is two weeks from now. That Saturday being the PPP event (ERT and all) and Sunday is closing for the season.
"Parking and entry was free and you buy tickets for the rides like at a fair."
But that ain't no fair! heh
"We asked him what one he was talking about and he said the Phoenix at Knoebels was the best."
I would not quite say its the best coaster out there, but it certiently a top ten ride.
"It was fast and had tons of air-time where we where constantly lifted out of the seats. Unlike Hercules at Dorney where it only has a good drop then the ride feels over, a ride on the Phoenix lasts forever in comparison. Pretty ---- good coaster considering how old it is!"
Indeed it is. I cannot think of any other ride which has that much airtime. Also, the Phoniex is not *that* old. Was built in the late 40's in Texas, and was later moved to Knoebels (this being a first) in the mid-80's.
"Next we hit the Whirlwind. Price was $1.20 per ride and the line was walk right on. Ride was odviously built by the same company that made the Scream Machine and Corkscrew at Cedar Point."
Nope, it is not an Arrow ride. It is, however, a Vekoma with Arrow built trains. This one was moved from Rye Playland a number of years ago.
"Finally we made it over to their newest coaster the Twister. Cost was an even $2.00 per ride. Where the Phoenix was about air-time, the Twister was about speed! And speed it had!! Even the Mean Streak at Cedar Point didn't feel near as fast as the Twister (no trim brakes that I could see). It's so new that you can still see pencil marks from the builders on the wood climbing both the lift hills."
I remember riding Twister in its first season, and those carpenters were **still** working on the ride, even as it was operating!
Nice TR, but it really is sad you did miss out on the magic at Knoebels. You won't find those flat rides (run) like those anywhere else. The Flyers, Bumber Cars, Haunted House, Power Surge, Train, Downdraft, Carousel (still can grab the brass rings!), and all the other great rides in Knoebels.
Please, get back to Knoebels and ride those flat rides (maybe for PPP in two weeks?)!

Yea I might go but I really never plans things. When I go to places like that it's usualy out of the blue. Why, you gonna be there? Well there's this HUGE fair right next to Knoebels that we're going to this saturday. And thanks for clearing some stuff up. Man... I would of bet my life that the Whirlwind was made 100% by the same people who did the Scream Machine.
