My take on things:
Same problem as sfgadviper. I didn't get home until 1:15 Sunday morning and then had to leave by 7:00 to return by 8:00. Needless to say, we didn't last until much past 12:00 noon. Major bummer since everything was a walk on that day.
I was bummed about the lack of tours but could understand why. However, what was the deal with no GASM or SM? Lack of ops maybe? I really missed ERT on GASM and I was too tired to do any marathons on Sunday after the park opened. I did do 8 in a row on the blue train but that was it. The blue train is perfect on this ride.
I don't think RT was greased. In years past, there was a noticeable difference. On Saturday night, you still had the screeching, grinding slow downs that there always is. The red train sucks on the left side and the green train while better, was still no blue or yellow on the left side. I could only re-ride the green train so as to preserve my ribs.
Mike (the guy running CC) seemed to genuinely care and did seem sincere about the return of CC next season. Maybe they had some difficulties setting it up so last minute.
I'm also wondering what other people thought about Nitro. I've never been on it first thing in the morning so maybe that has something to do with it but I thought it seemed rather tame. I’m sure the flat spot on the wheel of my particular row didn’t help as we thumped on our re-rides. The other oddity was during the airtime when you hit the up stops, the train would actually feel as though it were braking and the up stops would squeal in protest due to not being warmed up. By far the worst rides on Nitro all season. I went back to Medusa once the park opened.
Finally, Batman chiller sucked. It was barely making it through the top hat and did the twist so slowly that it banged you around to the point of not being fun. Of course, this was first thing in the morning but it didn’t matter since they shut it down once Robin came online. Robin was great. I was so happy they go it running before the park opened and this definitely made up for blue.
Good things:
Got to see a few people I haven’t seen in a while. Medusa (and its crew) rocked. It was running great, the station music was cool and the crew never stacked a train. RT green was fun in the dark and perfectly tolerable for re-rides. It also wasn’t very crowded and the crew was great. Come to think of it, all of the crews were greatJ
I arrived Saturday around 6:30 PM. We ate dinner at the hamburger place behind the old fountain in the main entrance area using the coupon included with our passes. I was not only impressed with the value of this ticket (it would have cost around $10.00) but the woman at the register was a sweetheart. She made sure I had everything from straws to ketchup and napkins. I felt like I was back at Cedar Point and we really enjoyed the meal.
The park was about as crowded as I’ve seen it all season and with ERT coming up, we weren’t about to waste time waiting in line for the big coasters. Therefore, we did flat rides and other attractions with shorter lines. We went on Jolly Roger, Buccaneer, Fantasy fling, Spin Meister, Pendulum (3 times), Free Fall, Swings, BBLTT, Skull Mountain, Houdini (wow did they fix this thing up!) and probably a few others that I’m forgetting. This was probably the most fun I’ve had at this park in a long time and it proves that big fast coasters aren’t everything. I was also impressed with how many rides were running. Other than the typical “dead” rides, everything was open. I was also shocked to see the Rapids, Movie town water effect (the reason batman chiller closed), log flume and sky ride and parachutes opening on Sunday.
All in all a great weekend. I don’t think we got as much bang for the buck as last year but I didn’t mind too much. The food at the hamburger stand was great and made up for missing the included lunch at the GOE on Saturday afternoon. The breakfast Sunday was good even if it didn’t have as much to offer. The crews were great and the park seemed to be operating better than it has all season. I can’t wait until next season!
