Chris, some of the rides have become "single operator." It is because the park can't afford to pay people past $6.00 an hour, but they can afford $25 million dollar coasters. The sad thing is that Nitro is only a year old, and the park will probably not break 3 million visitors this year, a first since the late 80's.
It is a common thing to say (while working at Great Adventure) "I am not racist, it's just that..." You become a regionalist too!
If there were another year to work at GA, I would never work Easter or the day after either. It is practically the same as you describe. It's just a different group that is bussed in.
JJ2K, it could have been a Grounds employee that you saw. They're known for not moving a muscle while standing around.
The Security shed by the employee entrance has been manned daily. Now I know why.
I won't be telling the story of Rolling Thunder. The ride is my baby, and the fact that a few people died on it is enough to say!
Thanks for the story Dainelle. I am glad to not be the only one operator that has been told off. My story is quite a doozy. Anybody else been spit at?...Remember, the trailer park trash are just as bad as the ghetto trash....

Okay, well are they some how trained to run at the spead of light? Cause I'm tellin ya there is no way that someone coulda ran fast enough away for me to not see them when I turned my head to my friends and then back to the Viper exit.

After reading about people getting shot in the park, I'm scared. I mean we all know that security in the park sucks, but to hear people have been shot in the park scares me. Well.. remember, this happened over 15 years ago.. and they immediately implemented metal detectors and stepped up security. I haven't clue as to how security is now, but if that shooting was the last incident that has occurred, then I'd feel safer there now.. no need to be scared.

If there were another year to work at GA, I would never work Easter or the day after either. It is practically the same as you describe. It's just a different group that is bussed in. That's amazing to me.. I just can't imagine any ride being only single operator for the simple reason of safety. It's ALWAYS best to have two pairs of eyes out there.. I remember you said they removed the wall from Musik Express.. I imagine that if they hadn't, they would HAVE to have at least two people, as the operator couldn't see behind the wall before starting the ride. I remember having to get a thumbs up from our attendants before starting, and they were required to check behind the wall.. (Actually, we jogged around the entire ride, checking the lap bars and then gave the signal) I guess you are right regarding the racist/regionalist! Heh. SO the day after Easter hasn't changed, huh? That's too bad because it would otherwise probably be one of the best days to be at the park, weatherwise and 'time off' wise.. *sigh* I guess some things never change. And so they finally started manning the security shack, eh? Took em long enough! All this nostalgia has prompted me to check into a vacation to Ohio and Jersey (where I grew up and lived most of my life).. if you're still there, Dan, when I stop by, I'll try to find you.. maybe you can sneak me into the employee cafeteria. Heh!

Yeah, that's real descriptive. Not entirely correct though. And Dan... Rolling Thunder USED TO BE your baby. You passed that title on to ME when you trained me back in March! And I passed it on to our new leads, Chris and Lou! And I, nor them, will tell the story of August 16, 1981!

Even I the lowley Viper lead know the story of 8-16-81. However, even when I no longer work at the park I will not tell anyone the whole story of what happened. This story is only to stay within the members of the SFGADV ride op team. In fact, I really only think that people in our area are the only one who actually know the entire story. I'm sure people from other sections in the park know of the accident but not the entire story. I think thats good the less who know. Than it's less likely people who shouldn't know will find out. There are just somethings that happen that you shouldn't know. Sorry.

Chris I am no longer at the park, but May or June would be the best time to go, as you may remember. All rides are pretty much a walk on..aren't they now anyway? My last day was August 17th. I guess there will be stories to come...anything that happens at Scream Machine at this point is beyond me! Dan, somebody who is identified with a ride claims that ride as their baby. The steel coasters weren't even a distant cousin Prepare to weather the storm
