I do think music would be great in the wait areas/station houses,etc.-especially if it were themed to each ride(Batman,Chiller, even Rolling Thunder& Viper could use country music).I always wondered what those "boxes" around GASM's line were for!If they're TV's why don't they use them? And why don't they update the photos in GASM's line?

they do use the GASM tvs now....but they are all fuzzy pictures.....and they should definitly update the picture in the queue though......and B:TR now plays music from the batman the movie cd and all the themeing effects are running full force.......and medusa ops play some music now and then like New Found Glory

It would be cool if they made "theme songs" for each coaster. They did it about 20-25 years ago for the "Demon" coasters that were at the then-Marriot Great Americas.

Now if we had some nice recorded messages and station music like M-Force @ CP (welcome to the millenium force....(techno)....etc) i'd be so happy i'd cry .....and go hug the ride op(even tho they probably din't get them if we got them)

Recorded spiels suck. Period. They take the fun out of operating, and can't possibly be done right... unless it were Chris...
Even if the park had it only for "occasional" use, people would abuse it. The microphone is what keeps the operators busy for eight hours
Enjoy your ride on the wildest ride in the frontier, celebrating its 23rd season here at Six Flags Great Adventure - the one, the only, Rolling Thunder!

Operator doesn't have fun => Operator gets bored Operator gets bored => Operator doesn't pay attention Operator doesn't pay attention => You die...
I should really revise my statement. Recorded spiels can be very helpful if done right, and the ops don't abuse it. Like, when I went to Hershey and rode Lightning Racers... the spiel was recorded, and all the operator said was "All Clear". She looked so bored and so unprofessional, it changed the ride experience.
We at Rolling Thunder tried to come up with a generic spiel, and found it next to impossible. Every cycle is different, and should be treated as such.
I estimate that I've sent out about 10,000 trains this year as Rolling Thunder operator. So, I have spieled 10,000 times. The trick is doing it a little different every time so it does not get monotonous. Even when I ride other coasters in the park, GASM, Medusa, I actually go to a supervisor if I don't like the operator's spiel or manner!
So, I hope this has cleared up my position on the whole live vs. recorded spiels business. A little bit of both would be OK, but I don't think it could work in our park.

Unfortunately, not all ops are created equal. Also, half the tiime, you can't even understand what they are saying because of the crappy pa sound system. I wish they all got into it the way the RT crew (and a certain GASM op) would. Music being played that related to the ride would be an added bonus. Any recording cannot compare to a skilled enthusiastic ride operator. The one thing I really liked at CP was how the ops at Mantis wore cordless headset mic's. This allowed them to take turns and added a fun factor with having them in the crowds interacting with the guests. You could also UNDERSTAND what they said because of the high quality sound systems. However, at least you can usually hear @ RT because it is usually quiet but forget the other coasters. You can barely make out "six flags" at the end. One of these days...

the ride ops could have fun if they wanted to... it's a job, not a court appointed community service

Yeah, the wireless headset where really great on mantis........the ride op could do his job/ be funny/ and have fun all at the same time in a good manner........it was really funny when he asked someone in line how the harness should fit because my dad was trying to get a little more room down there if you know what i mean.........ha ha........But i really like the whole concept of ride ops having fun........Yee haw on RT......You being launching about.........Now on Chiller and things like that....even them saying yell if you want to go higher on pendulum.....even though they can't its just fun to interact with the ride ops........but a greatly recorded thing like the one on m-force just makes it an experience when the red lights go forward and your off with music playing as you exit

What if they retro-fitted coasters with trains that had sound systems in them?Disney did it to the Anahiem Space Mountain, after building the S.M. in Paris & the Rock-N-Roller Coaster in Orlando.Simply junk the old trains and put the new "stereo trains"on.
